Vacation countdown calendar for kids

Anticipation is half the fun — and a countdown calendar turns “how long now?” into a game. Here’s how to make a simple countdown calendar with your kids, with a small moment each day on the way to the holiday.

How to make it

1. Pick the number of days — start 1 or 2 weeks ahead, not too early (or it feels “too long”).
2. One box per day — cut paper slips or use a calendar. Let each child decorate it with pens and stickers.

4. Count down at breakfast — open one box together each morning. That becomes the fixed ritual.
